Airflow Developments

Airflow Developments Limited is a long-established British manufacturer of ventilation equipment more generally known as Airflow. Headquartered in the United Kingdom, it has subsidiaries in Germany and the Czech Republic and international distributors as far apart as Norway and New Zealand.
==History==
Airflow was established in 1955 in the garage of its founder, Connor Wilson at his home in High Wycombe in conjunction with Gwilym (Bill) Leighton Myles. Wilson was a fan engineer by trade and invented the first inclined Manometer to go into commercial production Bill Myles being the Sales Director. The original wooden device, which measured positive, negative and differential pressure, was the forerunner of a range of air flow measuring instruments for HVAC applications which are still sold around the world.
Industrial centrifugal fans and blowers were introduced into the manufacturing process in 1960 and they too are still sold to original equipment manufacturers for ventilation, cooling and warm air distribution purposes. In 1969, the first domestic extractor fan, the Loovent was launched. With over two million units sold to date, it still forms part of the residential ventilation portfolio along with the QuietAir and iCON range of extractor fans.
Introduced in 2004, iCON’s unique, patented iris shutter design remains a highly distinctive and individual product which won the European Red Dot design award in 2006. In recent years, the company has developed its eco-air portfolio in line with UK government policy towards energy efficient construction products and now includes low noise, low energy fans and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery for commercial and residential buildings to meet new Building Regulations introduced in 2010.
Connor Wilson also began a successful airflow measuring instrumentation group within the company, creating successful and highly accurate 100mm rotating vane electronic anemometers. The earliest rotating vane anemometers, such as the EDRA4, was constructed in hardwood cases. Later versions became more advanced with metal cases (EDRA 5), and finally the EDRA 6 with improved electronics. During the late 1980s, the company introduced digital readout versions of their popular 100mm rotating vane products with the portable DVA30 and DVA30VT, as well as smaller, lower cost, patented, hand-held rotating vane anemometers (model LCA6000). The company was also highly respected for its high accuracy bench top pressure manometer (MEDM500 and MEDM5K). The company also pursued and created the first high accuracy hand held ultrasonic anemometer during the mid 1990s. It was the company's success with the instrumentation division that helped it grow and add international offices in Germany, and in the United States (Aiflow Technical Products 1989 to 2005)
During his career, Bill Myles was recognized for his contributions to industry and was admitted to the Worshipful Company of Marketors, being given the Freedom of the City of London in 1979. Sadly, Bill Myles died in January 1980. Airflow was made over to common ownership in the 70s, creating charitable works organization that also supported local volunteer ambulance departments in the High Wycombe area.
